Transworld acquires Instagram-inspired cookbook

Transworld has acquired the UK & Commonwealth rights for Symmetry Breakfast by Michael Zee, founder and creator of the Instagram phenomenon of the same name, from Cathryn Summerhayes at WME.

Among Zee's 418k followers on Instagram are the likes of Jamie Oliver and Tom Kerridge, as well as the founder of Instagram, Kevin Systrom, who reportedly named it his favourite account.

The Instagram feed is run by couple of three years, who post a picture each morning of two identical breakfasts they eat together. Michael Zee works in the Victoria and Albert Museum and his partner Mark van Beek is a menswear fashion designer.

Transworld editorial director Andrea Henry said: “Symmetry Breakfast originated with the lovely idea of Michael wanting to make a beautiful breakfast each day for his partner. The book will be a stunning, rather unconventional cookbook which taps into the current breakfast trend. It will explore the romance of the first meal of the day, investigate breakfasts from around the globe and further Michael’s philosophy that at any time of the day, it’s breakfast somewhere in the world. It’s a delicious project.”

Summerhayes said: “Symmetry Breakfast cheers me up – and makes me hungry – every morning and I’m sure it will do the same for many readers when it publishes next year. The Transworld team pitched gloriously for this book and we couldn’t be more delighted with the outcome.”

Bantam Press will publish in hardback in August 2016.
