Trade disappointment as pandemic stops physical London Book Fair

Publishers and agents say the decision against holding a physical London Book Fair (LBF) this year is disappointing but the "only possible solution" for the event in 2021. However, the organisers' policy of not giving refunds to exhibitors has come in for strong criticism from some.

The announcement on Thursday (15th April) that LBF will be digital only had been widely expected as the pandemic continues to cause disruption across the globe. Industry figures The Bookseller spoke to said they were not surprised by the decision but still saddened to lose an important in-person event.
