Titan Books has bought popular writer and video essayist Lindsay Ellis' debut novel.
Titan Books senior editor Cat Camacho bought UK and Commonwealth English rights from Chris Scheina, St Martin’s Press’ senior manager of subsidiary rights. Axiom’s End will be published July 2020, and is the latest addition to Titan Books’ expanding Science Fiction list that includes authors such as Charlie Jane Anders, Nina Allan and Sarah Maria Griffin.
The synopsis reads: "Set in the autumn of 2007, Axiom’s End is an intelligent and compulsively readable first-contact story about a young woman finds herself caught in a whirlwind of controversy after her father seemingly leaks highly confidential US intelligence about alien existence on earth. Caught in the ensuing whirlwind of paparazzi and conspiracy theories, Cora doesn’t care whether her estranged father’s claims are true or merely hoaxes, until she learns just how entrenched her whole family are in a cover-up that spans decades. To save her own life she offers her services as an interpreter to a monster, and the monster accepts."
Ellis gained a following on her YouTube channel where her humorous videos deconstructing media, narratives and film theories in popular culture have been watched over 72 million times. Titan said: "Axiom’s End beautifully captures the trademark wit she has become known for in these explorations."
Camacho added: "I am delighted that Axiom's End has found a home in the UK at Titan, so many of us at Titan have been fans of Lindsay for years, and we are thrilled to be publishing her timely first-contact adventure début."
In addition to her YouTube channel, Ellis is the host of the PBS series “It’s Lit!”
