Hot Key Books has acquired three new properties ahead of Bologna Book Fair, snapping up a space adventure series, a futuristic fantasy debut novel and two more books in YA horror crime series The Vengence Club.
Editorial director Sara O'Connor bought world rights in The Garbage Men From Outer Space by debut author and former CBBC head of drama development Cas Lester from Gaia Banks at Sheil Land, with the series aimed at 9-12 year olds. The first book will be published in summer 2014, and will feature earth boy Harvey Drew, who is declared captain of the intergalactic waste disposal ship Toxic Spew.
Meanwhile, Hot Key Books m.d. Sarah Odedina has bought world rights in debut novel for teens, Land, by Alex Campbell, from Kirsty McLachlan at David Godwin Associates.
Publisher Emily Thomas has also bought world rights, excluding US, for two books in US author Gregg Olsen's new YA horror crime series, The Vengence Club, from Kate McLennan at Abner Stein on behalf of Susan Raihofer at David Black Agency. The first book will be published in late spring 2014.
Odedina said: "These exciting acquisitions from debut and established authors show the variety of genres Hot Key Books publishes in our commitment to bring great stories to readers."
