John Murray imprint Two Roads has struck a three book deal with Monty Don.
The first, Paradise Gardens, is a journey celebrating the gardens of Islam from Bradford to Aggra via Spain, Morocco, Istanbul, Iran and Kashmir. Created in collaboration with photographer Derry Moore, it travels through four Islamic empires: Andalucían, Moghul, Persian and Ottoman, and explores how culture and climate has influenced garden design. Paradise Gardens will publish in February 2018 and a BBC2 television series will run in early spring.
A memoir - Don's second after Nigel: My Family and Other Dogs (Two Roads) sold over a quarter of a million copies, according to John Murray - will follow in September 2018. The new book will explore the role animals play in our health and wellbeing, from companions for mental health to guide dogs and those trained to detect heart attacks.
The third book in the deal will be a memoir of Monty Don’s childhood growing up in rural Hampshire.
Two Roads publisher, Lisa Highton acquired world rights in all three books from Alexandra Henderson Associates.
Don commented: “I am very excited at the scope and range of the projects that Two Roads and I have entered into and, in the basis of my experience with Nigel, my previous book with them, look forward to a mutually creative and rewarding relationship.”
Highton added: "It was an absolute delight to work with Monty on Nigel and I am looking forward to further collaboration on a range of exciting and diverse projects over the next few years."
