Amazon Publishing’s crime and thriller imprint Thomas & Mercer has signed Glasgow-based journalist Lisa Gray for two novels.
World English rights for Thin Air, and a second as-yet-untitled novel, were bought by Amazon fiction editor Jack Butler from Philip Patterson at Marjacq Scripts Ltd.
Thin Air will be published in May 2019, with the second book to follow in autumn 2019.
The novel tells the story of private detective and missing person specialist, Jessica Shaw. When she receives an anonymous tip-off about a three-year-old girl who disappeared 25 years ago, Jessica thinks it’s a case like any other. Until she looks at the photograph – and her world collapses.
Gray is a journalist for the Daily Record and is based in Glasgow. She has written for several national newspapers and magazines. Lisa is also the author of a non-fiction book entitled Rangers FC: We Don’t Do Walking Away (Black and White).
Butler said: “The team here fell in love with Lisa’s writing and we were bowled over by her headstrong protagonist, Jessica Shaw, from the first chapter. Thin Air is a pacy, intelligent thriller and we’re confident readers will be gripped by the story and adore Jessica as much as we do.”
Dominic Myers, director of Amazon Publishing EU, said: “It’s rare to find a debut novelist whose writing and imagination have the reader hooked from the very start.
Lisa is one to watch and we’re delighted to have her join the Thomas & Mercer list.”
Gray said: “I’m really excited to be working with Jack Butler and the team at Thomas & Mercer, and I can’t wait for readers to meet Jessica Shaw.”
