Thomas & Mercer, an imprint of Amazon Publishing, has signed a two-book deal with psychological suspense writer Susi Holliday.
World English language rights were acquired from Philip Patterson at Marjacq Scripts. The first title, The Last Resort, will be published in November 2020 and Substitute will be published in mid-2021.
The Last Resort is a murder mystery which centres around seven strangers who receive invitations to attend an all-expenses-paid retreat to test a new tech device on a private island. Before the end of their first day, all but one is dead. As the guests disappear, readers will start to question who brought them to the island and why.
Substitute is about a “twisted game of would you rather”. The psychological suspense tells the story of a woman who has to make an impossible choice. A pioneering new technology goes rogue, threatening to take everything that she holds dear.
Jack Butler, senior fiction editor, said: “Working with Susi on these books has been exhilarating. We have developed each story into a complex emotional tale, with the searing pace of her previous thrillers. I can’t wait for new and existing readers alike to get their hands on these sharp and incredibly discerning books, and it is so exciting to have her join the list.”
Holliday added: “I'm delighted to be working with Thomas & Mercer who have been hugely enthusiastic and passionate about these ideas from the start. With every book I write, I head in a slightly different direction and I love that Jack shared my vision to help turn these concepts into something very exciting indeed.”
