Little, Brown has released further plot details about Career of Evil, the third novel by "Robert Galbraith".
The book, the third to be authored by J K Rowling under a pseudonym, will continue the story of private detective Cormoran Strike and his assistant Robin Ellacott and will see the detective's assistant receiving a mysterious package that contains a a woman’s severed leg.
Cormoran Strike believes there are four people from his past who he thinks could be responsible, and knows that any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality.
When the police focus on a suspect who Cormoran believes is not the perpetrator, he and Robin take matters into their own hands, and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men.
Little, Brown said: "A fiendishly clever mystery with unexpected twists around every corner, it is also a gripping story of a man and a woman at a crossroads in their personal and professional lives."
The previous books in the series are 2013's The Cuckoo's Calling, in which Strike investigated the death of a model, and 2014's The Silkworm, which focused on the world of publishing.
Rowling has said that she has plans for "not seven, more" novels in the series, which is also being adapted for television by the BBC. The Cuckoo’s Calling has sold 375,942 copies through Nielsen BookScan and The Silkworm has sold 195,509 copies.
Career of Evil will be released on 22nd October as a £20 hardback and £10.99 e-book.
