Tesco has appointed a new senior buying manager for books, to replace its outgoing category manager David Cooke.
It is the first time the supermarket has created such a role. Garry Blackman will join the supermarket on 1st September. He joins from Oakwood distribution where he has been involved in setting up Tesco's new books supply chain.
In a letter to publishers, Deborah Rabey, Tesco's category director for merchandising, papershop (which includes books), toys and stationery, said: "Giving the books team a dedicated senior manager is an indication of the importance we are placing on this growth category for Tesco. Garry is passionate about books and he will be keen to work with you to quickly step-change our offer for customers."
He effectively replaces David Cooke, who will leave Tesco next month to join newspaper and magazine company Menzies Distribution.
