Templar will launch its 10th Ology book, Alienology: The Complete Guide to Extraterrestrials, later this month, backed by a digital programme that will include SMS ringtones, downloads and an online package.
Templar said the digital programme was an experiment to find whether new revenue channels could be created through book-related ringtones, games and other digital assets. If it works, the model will be applied to other brands within the Bonnier group, to which Templar belongs.
UK readers will pay £9.99 to turn their mobile phones into ‘Intergalactic Communicators’ and receive ‘alien communications’ including four ringtones, animated cards, personalised ID cards and access to the content-rich online experience on the Ology World website.
The website allows readers access to an online interactive ‘book’—the COSMOS 5 Training Manual for New Recruits. The Training Manual can be accessed by users without mobile phones, or those wanting the online experience only, for £4.99.
Amanda Wood, managing director of Templar Publishing, said: “The ‘Ology’ series has been a hit with young readers because of the incredible attention to detail in each book. Our thinking behind this new release is to offer readers even more content in addition to the book."
The release is being supported with a POS campaign.
