Market research firm GfK has predicted that 1 million tactile tablets will be sold in France this year.
A total of 435,000 worth 220 million euros were sold here in 2010, a strong start for the new market. Although tablet sales for Christmas were reported not to have come up to expectations, GfK said they took off in France in December with a total of 160,000 units sold in that month alone.
"Tactile tablets have unquestionably found their market (in France), between smart phones and micro-computers," François Klipfel, GfK deputy managing director for GfK Retail and Technology France said yesterday (26th February).
Giving a rundown on the consumer electronics market in 2010 and forecasts for this year, GfK said tablets helped boost total turnover to 17.7 billion euros last year, up a modest 0.9% from 17.6 billion in 2009.
The increase compared with 8% in the Netherlands, 6% in Germany, 2% in the UK and was on a par with Italy and Belgium.
