The energetic campaign to prevent the closure of branch libraries in Swindon continues unabated, with local resident Shirley Burnham submitting a complaint about the matter to the Ombudsman.
Burnham has gained the backing of South Swindon MP Anne Snelgrove for her complaint, which has been made against Swindon borough council's conduct over the library closures.
Burnham has also repeated her plea to culture secretary Andy Burnham to intervene in Swindon according to his duty under the 1964 public libraries and museums act to ensure local councils offer a "comprehensive and efficient" library service.
The culture secretary recently acceded to a concerted campaign to get him to intervene over the library closures in Wirral, but he has thus far declined to launch a similar investigation in Swindon.
As a result, the campaigner has written to him again, asserting that the council's plans will make the library service in Swindon "significantly less comprehensive" and "significantly less efficient".
