Sweet Cherry has acquired the Christie and Agatha’s Detective Agency series by Pip Murphy, illustrated by Roberta Tedeschi.
The stories fictionalise real-life discoveries and events to introduce young readers aged 7+ to famous historical figures. The series is set in the 1920s and follows the adventures of the title characters, twins sisters with inquisitive minds that lead them to solve mysteries. The first three titles explore Alexander Fleming’s discovery of penicillin, Henry Alexander Jr’s ascent up Ben Nevis in a motor car, and Howard Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb.
The publisher acquired worldwide rights to publish the series in all languages.
Sweet Cherry’s managing editor Cecilia Bennett said: “The 1920s is often seen as the golden age of crime fiction and it’s such an interesting time period! Not only does it have a mix of invention, technological progress and nostalgic things like steam trains, but it was also a decade in which women gained a lot of rights. It’s great to be able to explore this world through our two inquisitive heroines.”
Murphy said: “I’m thankful to the wonderful Sweet Cherry team for turning my dream to be a writer into a reality. I can’t wait for my readers to travel back in time with me and join tomboy Christie and timid Agatha as they solve a mystery that really takes the sandwich!”
The first book in the series, A Discovery Disappears, will be published in September.
