Angus Cargill at Faber has pre-empted world English rights in a Swedish tale of the supernatural, featuring trolls.
Cargill compares the story to early Stephen King such as Salem’s Lot as well as John Ajvide Lindqvist’s Let The Right One In.
Stallo by Stefan Spjut was acquired on the strength of 80 pages for a “good five figures” from Gustav Bonde at the Bonnier Group Agency. The novel has “a superb set-piece opening, with a mother and a young son in the woods in the 1970s, which is very creepy. The son goes missing and years later another child disappears,” said Cargill.
The book will be published by Bonniers Forlag this autumn and by Faber in spring or summer 2013.
