Some of Britain’s leading supermarket chains were triggering emergency plans on Thursday (27th) to ensure they had the biggest music releases of the Christmas season on their shelves following the collapse of Woolworths and EUK, its distribution arm, reports the FT.
Asda, J Sainsbury and Wm Morrison, three of the big four UK supermarkets, were forced to find alternative supply deals – either through other third parties or direct from music makers and publishers – as supply dried from Woolworths’ distribution business, which was put into administration on Thursday night alongside the 800-strong store chain. EUK also supplies WH Smith, Zavvi and Borders among others. Borders was also changing its supply arrangements on Thursday night.
