The Sun newspaper has signed a media partnership to support ITV3’s new Crime Thriller season and awards this autumn.
In the deal struck with production company Cactus TV, the newspaper will publish features during the week leading up to the awards, focusing on the literary categories: ––the breakthrough author of the year, author of the year and international author of the year.
The Crime Thriller Awards take place on 3rd October, with the ceremony shown on the 6th. ITV3 will broadcast seven weeks of crime programming leading up to the awards, with six documentaries profiling crime writers Ruth Rendell, P D James, Val McDermid, Colin Dexter, Lynda La Plante and Ian Rankin. One will be broadcast each week, with all repeated in the final week.
The awards focus on the best of British and international crime novels, with nine categories in books, film and TV. They will be supported by retailers and publishers with stickers and instore promotions.
Cactus m.d. Amanda Ross said that ITV3 was considering establishing the awards as a yearly strand but stressed that “it is important to the future of it that ITV3 sees posters and stickers in shops”. Category shortlists will be announced next weekend.
