Head of Zeus has acquired the novel Doppler by Norwegian writer Erlend Loe, describing it as an "utterly charming but deeply subversive fable".
Editorial director Laura Palmer bought world English rights in the title from Cappelen Damm via David Miller at RCW. Head of Zeus will publish in hardback in December.
The novel follows the story of a man who, on the death of his father, abandons his home, his career and the trappings of civilisation for a makeshift tent in the forest. He adopts an elk calf, Bongo, and devotes himself to the art of living without an agenda.
Palmer said: "The team at Head of Zeus were totally bewitched by this charming, funny and clever novel-we're delighted to be publishing Doppler in the UK." The book has already been acquired by 22 other foreign publishers.
