Student Sean McSorley has won the 2014 Book Illustration Competition with his designs for a new edition of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness.
McSorley, a masters student at Camberwell College of Arts, was chosen from hundreds of entries submitted from more than 30 countries. He will now receive a commission, worth £5,000, to complete nine illustrations and a binding design for a forthcoming edition of Heart of Darkness to be published by the Folio Society in October.
His designs were selected by a judging panel made up of artist Tom Phillips, charity House of Illustration trustee Kathleen Soriano, last year's winner Finn Dean, House of Illustration's Flora Craig and staff from the Folio Society.
The 2015 prize also opens today, and asks illustrators to submit designs for the Folio Collection of Ghost Stories.
