Stripes signs new book by Cannon

Little Tiger Group imprint Stripes has signed a new title by Katy Cannon, the author of Love, Lies & Lemon Pies and Secrets, Schemes & Sewing Machines.

And Then We Ran, told in a dual narrative, is about a teenage girl who dreams of being a chef despite her parents disapproval, and a boy who is fighting family pressure to go into the navy. Together they go on a road-trip that turns out to be a “journey of self-discovery for them both”, according to Stripes.

Commissioning editor Ruth Bennett, who acquired world rights in a two-book deal from Gemma Cooper at The Bent Agency, said: “And Then We Ran is a perfect road-trip story. Katy writes characters you feel like you already know and she has a talent for taking her readers on a journey. There's a wealth of fantastic YA authors in the UK right now and Katy deserves to be among the leading names in this area.”

Cannon is also the author of one of the short stories that will be published in Stripes’ charity analogy, I’ll be Home for Christmas, supported by the YALC and the YA Book Prize.

And Then We Ran will be published in May 2017.
