String of hires at One More Chapter as Morgan steps up

HarperCollins digital-first division One More Chapter has announced a number of new hires in both its marketing and editorial teams and a promotion for assistant editor Bethan Morgan.

The new-look team comes after a successful year for the division, including its first Waterstone’s Thriller of the Month selection and a Sunday Times top 10 bestseller in April with B P Walter’s The Dinner Guest and a first Audible number one with Jackie Kabler’s The Perfect Coup.

Emma Petfield (pictured) joins the division as head of digital marketing, moving from John Murray Press. Whilst there, she managed the digital marketing strategy for the division and more recently for brand authors Susie Dent, Mick Herron and Ruth Hogan as well as devising campaign plans for The Cactus by Sarah Haywood and Morality by Jonathan Sacks. She was also one of the founding members of Hachette UK's The Future Bookshelf. She reports to publishing director Charlotte Ledger.

Petfield said: "I’ve had a wonderful time at John Murray Press and learnt so much, working with some brilliant authors and excellent colleagues. I’m over the moon to be joining the team at One More Chapter, who have gone from strength to strength rapidly. I can’t wait to get started and play a part in championing OMC’s continued growth."

Also new to the marketing team is Sara Roberts who joins as marketing assistant. She previously interned at Scottish independent publisher Ringwood and will report to Emma Petfield.

On the editorial side, the division has appointed Jennie Rothwell as commissioning editor. Rothwell joined in May from Arrow where she was editor and worked across a number of commercial fiction authors including Katie Flynn, E L James and debut Sara Jafari. She will report to Charlotte Ledger and is building up a list of new commercial talent for readers across the globe.

Rothwell said: "I am absolutely thrilled to join One More Chapter, and become part of an exciting and ambitious team who are publishing brilliant commercial fiction. I've learned so much from my time at Arrow and will miss my authors but I'm ready to take on this new challenge. Crime, thrillers and contemporary women's fiction are my passion and I'm excited to bring new voices to the list, and work with their fantastic current authors — 2021 has such a strong publishing schedule!"

In addition to the new members, One More Chapter has also promoted Bethan Morgan to editor. Morgan said: "This is an immensely exciting time for One More Chapter and I’m thrilled to continue working with such talented authors across the crime, historical and fantasy genres."

Ledger said: "One More Chapter’s roots are in digital and we’re proud of it. We’ve always embraced our digital-first model and all the opportunities it offers us across all formats and territories but we’ve also always been ambitious to break the mould and the constraints of traditional publishing – a Sunday Times bestseller once again shows digital-first does not mean digital only. It’s been an incredible couple of years since we launched and I’m delighted for Bethan who has been on the team since the beginning. Emma, Jennie and Sara joining our fast-growing OMC team is the icing on the cake. We are a team passionate about doing things differently and we are committed to publishing the very best in commercial fiction."
