Becky Stradwick, former head of children's books at Borders and currently children's agent at the Darley Anderson Agency, will join Random House Children's Books as editorial director for children’s fiction in March. Her role at RHCB will be strategic and acquisitive.
Publisher Annie Eaton said: "Becky's passion and knowledge of children's literature combined with her commercial head and experience will enable her to take on a strategic role within RHCB. She has a fantastic view of the market and awareness of our list."
Areas that RHCB is seeking to develop include opportunities in its backlist, non-fiction popular culture and series publishing, said Eaton. "We will focus on three series each year across different age ranges, so consolidating the series publishing we have done to date, and we will be discussing a number of other opportunities with Becky."
She added: "I wouldn’t expect to see many more booksellers coming into publishing at this level. Alongside her retail experience, Becky has importantly had a year’s experience at an agency where she has worked with authors and developed manuscripts and that is what made her interesting for this position."
Stradwick said: "I have always been a huge fan of the Random House Children’s Books list so the opportunity to join this team is enormously exciting. I have loved my time at Darley Anderson and I very much look forward to working with them again in the future."
