Steve Rubin has joined Macmillan US imprint Henry Holt. Rubin joins on 2nd November as president and publisher of Holt, one of the oldest publishing names in the US. Rubin left his post as executive vice president and publisher-at-large of Random House Inc at the end of September. His long-time role as president and publisher of Doubleday was eliminated in a restructuring earlier in the year.
Dan Farley, who has run Holt since the beginning of 2008, will now focus on his role as president and publisher of Macmillan Children's Publishing Group. Both report to Macmillan US chief executive John Sargent.
In a statement, Sargent described Rubin as "a rare publishing talent". Rubin said: "I have always strived to publish those exceptional books that bridge the gap between commerce and literature. I believe that Holt is the perfect place to do this."
In his 25 years at Random House Rubin published two of the biggest names in popular fiction Dan Brown and John Grisham. In the 1990s Rubin was, for a period, the London-based chairman of Transworld.
