Stephanie Purcell, group rights director at Simon & Schuster, has been appointed group rights director at Bloomsbury.
The role, based in London, covers all divisions and Purcell will report to Kathleen Farrar, m.d. of group sales and marketing.
Purcell has spent more than a decade at Simon & Schuster as the group rights director, and delivered year-on-year growth in rights revenues for the global group. Prior to that, her rights career spanned both adult and children’s publishing from Mitchell Beasley to Orchard Books (Hachette Children’s Group). Over the course of her career she has sold rights for authors and illustrators including Benji Davies, Lauren Child and Philippa Gregory. Her achievements have been recognised by being shortlisted three years consecutively for the British Book Awards' Rights Professional of the Year prize.
Commenting on the appointment, she said: "I am thrilled to be joining Bloomsbury, with its outstanding reputation and amazing list of award-winning authors and illustrators that I have always admired. I am relishing the opportunity to work with such a dynamic and passionate team and continue to ensure readers across the world get to read these fantastic books in their own language."
Farrar added: "I’m delighted to welcome Stephanie to Bloomsbury. Her wealth of experience in the worldwide rights market will bring a new level of skill and experience to Bloomsbury. The rights department is an important part of our worldwide sales strategy. Stephanie’s breadth of knowledge and industry support will be a great benefit to Bloomsbury and to our authors and illustrators."
