Simon & Schuster UK has said it will distribute a picture book about Donald Trump that is currently hitting the headlines.
The book, titled A Child’s First Book of Trump and published by Simon & Schuster US, was written by American comedian Michael Ian Black. The blurb promises to introduce the “curious creature” that is the “Americus Trumpus” to the reader.
“A business mogul, reality TV host, and now…political candidate? Kids (and let’s be honest many adults) might have difficulty discerning just what this thing that’s been dominating news coverage the US election cycle is,” it explains. “Could he actually be real? Are those…words coming out of his mouth? Why are his hands so tiny? And perhaps most importantly, what on earth do you do when you encounter an American Trump?"
In an interview with US local newspaper Hartford Courant, Black said the satirical book is not really aimed at children, despite being published in the picture book format with illustrations by Marc Rosenthal.
"I think you could read it to your children if they don't scare easily," he said. “It's clearly aimed at adults who are finding themselves feeling a little befuddled at the rise of a certain orange beast."
He also wanted to satirise the amount of media attention Trump gets. "Trump really thrives primarily, almost exclusively, on attention, the amount of airspace he's able to take up. The media is complicit in aiding and abetting that. I'm as guilty of watching it as anybody. It's the amplification of his nonsense that is so upsetting and compelling."
A Child’s First Book of Trump will go on sale in the UK on 14th July in hardback (£12.99) and e-book (£6.99) formats.
