S&S teams up with Hotels.com in the US

Simon & Schuster US is teaming up with Hotels.com to offer some of its bestselling e-books to travellers, including those by authors Stephen King and Philippa Gregory.

The partnership will enable Hotels.com customers who book a minimum two-night stay in selected US destinations to download one of seven free e-books from S&S. The publisher hopes partnership will allow it to find new audiences.

At present, the titles on offer to Hotel.com customers include Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King, The White Queen by Philippa Gregory and The Ascendant by Drew Chapman. New titles will be added and rotated within the program periodically, the publisher said.

Liz Perl, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Simon & Schuster, said: “Business and pleasure travellers spend a great deal of time reading on the road and are an ideal audience with whom to share great new books.”

The partnership will take advantage of Hotels.com’s “vast customer base” in order to “match more books with readers,” S&S said.

The Simon & Schuster and Hotels.com e-book offering is powered by Glose, which is an interactive social reading platform where books can be downloaded and stored on various devices for both iOS and Android. Glose comes with a number of features, including the ability to store links and notes in e-book margins, one-tap text highlighting, and shareable text annotations.
