Simon & Schuster Children's UK is to publish Here's to Us, the follow-up to Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli's YA romance What If It's Us.
Ali Dougal, publishing director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from HarperCollins US, and S&S plans to publish in paperback original in October 2021.
What If It's Us was the first collaboration between Silvera and Albertalli, a love story about two boys, Ben and Arthur, and the stumbling start to their romance. Since publication in 2018, the book has sold 50,000 copies in the UK and export territories, according to the publisher. The screen rights to What If It's Us are currently in development, with the authors on board as co-executive producers.
The sequel sees Ben and Arthur’s paths cross two years later as they learn to navigate their relationship in New York City and see if they have "another shot at true love".
Dougal said: "Adam and Becky’s sparky writing partnership has earned them hordes of fans, who will devour this new instalment in Ben and Arthur’s relationship. We’re thrilled to be publishing these two YA favourites on our list of global YA bestsellers in 2021."
Silvera has worked in the publishing industry as a bookseller, marketing assistant and book reviewer. He is also the author of More Happy Than Not, History Is All You Left Me, They Both Die at The End, Infinity Son, and the upcoming Infinity Reaper.
Albertalli is the author of Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda, The Upside of Unrequited, Leah on the Offbeat, Yes No Maybe So (with Aisha Saeed), Love, Creekwood: A Simonverse Novella, and the upcoming Kate in Waiting.
