Simon and Schuster UK has acquired two books by award-winning New York Times bestseller Tom Barbash.
Senior commissioning editor Jessica Leeke bought UK and Commonwealth rights to Stay Up With Me, a collection of short stories, and The Dakota Winters, a novel which will tell the “epic and intimate” story of a family living in the Dakota building in the year leading up to the assassination of John Lennon outside the building.
Leeke bought rights from Claire Roberts at Trident Media, who made the sale on behalf of Ellen Levine. In the US, both books were bought at auction by Ecco’s Daniel Halpern from Levine, with Lee Boudreaux to edit. Both books will be published in 2014.
Leeke said: “We’re extremely excited to welcome Tom to our list and have fallen for his truly accomplished stories. Bittersweet and compassionate, they explore the innermost dynamics of family relationships and we’ll be using every opportunity available to us in this digital age to reach a wide audience.”
