Simon & Schuster UK has bought two more thrillers in the DS Adam Tyler series from author and former Waterstones employee Russ Thomas.
Thomas’s debut novel, Firewatching (S&S), a police procedural with the edge of a psychological thriller, was selected as a Waterstones Thriller of the Month in November 2020. The follow-up, Nighthawking, was published by S&S in hardback this April. The next book in the series picks up three months after the events of Nighthawking, when a body is discovered in a frozen lake, its wrists bound. Tyler, DC Rabbani and the cold case review team are called in when the body is linked to a case from 2003. But the discovery of fresh blood at the scene drags the cold case sharply into the present.
Bethan Jones, commissioning editor, struck a deal for UK and Commonwealth rights with Sarah Hornsley at The Bent Agency.
Jones said: "I am so thrilled to continue working with Russ on this incredible series. I have loved DS Adam Tyler and DC Rabbani for years now and it’s been so exciting to see readers respond to them so passionately. These are truly special thrillers that walk the beats of a procedural investigation but with the feel of a psychological drama, and I cannot wait to see where Tyler and Russ go next."
Hornsley added: "Russ Thomas is a wonderfully talented writer and I’m delighted that we have the opportunity to grow his career further at S&S, where the support from the whole publishing team has been second to none. I have been very impressed with their relentless championing of Russ, even when faced with the challenge of launching a debut series during a pandemic, and we couldn’t have wished for a better home for DS Adam Tyler."
Thomas is a former Waterstones bookseller and a graduate of the Sheffield Hallam MA Creative Writing programme. He said: "I am beyond thrilled to be working with Bethan and all the team at Simon & Schuster again. They've all been so supportive of me through what has been a tough time for everyone. I really couldn't have asked for more and I'm so glad I get to share more of Tyler and Rabbani with the world."
