Simon & Schuster Children’s Books has acquired two books by Kaye Umansky, the author of the Pongwiffy series (Puffin Books).
Jane Griffiths, editorial director for children’s fiction, acquired world rights to Witch for a Week, plus a sequel, from Caroline Sheldon of the Caroline Sheldon Literary Agency.
Griffiths said: “Pongwiffy was one of my very favourite books as a child, so working with the brilliant Kaye Umansky on this new witchy series is most definitely a career highlight for me. There’s a truly magical quality to Kaye’s writing and I know that readers are going to be enthralled and delighted by Elsie and the brilliant cast of characters around her – just as I was when I first discovered Kaye’s books.”
Witch for a Week will be published in October 2017 and pitched at readers aged 6-9. An illustrator will be announced in due course.
