Simon & Schuster has acquired two television tie-ins with Michael Portillo.
Iain MacGregor, non-fiction publishing director, signed world rights for a tie-in book for “Great Continental Railway Journeys” and a tie-in for a new series called “Great American Railway Journeys”. Both titles were acquired from Freemantle UK via the Cat Ledger Literary Agency.
MacGregor said: “I published Great British Railway Journeys into the bestseller charts when the very first format aired on the BBC in 2010. To now have acquired not only the tie-in to the most successful format covering Continental Europe, but also a brand new adventure to North America is very exciting. It will be a very successful trip we are all undertaking and these lavishly illustrated books will be a must-have purchase for all fans of the show”.
The fourth and final series of “Great Continental Railway Journeys” is now airing on BBC2. The accompanying book will be released in autumn of this year. “Great American Railway Journeys” will see Portillo travelling the famous lines across the USA and will transmit in the summer of 2016.
