Welsh rugby captain Sam Warburton has signed a two-book deal with Simon & Schuster.
The Welsh sporting champ’s first book will be entitled My Grand Slam Year, which will cover his past 12 months in rugby, in which he became the Welsh captain, participated in the Rugby World Cup, the Grand Slam and the Six Nations. It will be out on shelves in October.
S&S executive director Kerr MacRae and commissioning editor for sport Rhea Halford struck the deal with Derwyn Jones.
Warburton said “I'm delighted to be given the opportunity by S&S to tell my story in what has been an amazing year in my life. From being awarded the national captaincy, ‘the’ tackle, to lifting the Six Nations trophy, it has been an incredible journey full of highs and lows. I can't wait to tell my story.”
MacRae added that Warburton was the “outstanding sports person of this new UK generation.”
He said: “This combined with a raw talent for leadership and motivation make him a prime candidate for a positive and bestselling future within the world of the written word too. I am honoured and delighted to welcome him to the Simon & Schuster family.”
Last night, Warburton presented the British Sports Book Awards at the Savoy in London.
