Simon & Schuster is to produce a “definitive” book on the 2009 Ashes series due to be published on 1st September (£18.99) titled Atherton's Ashes.
Mike Atherton, who has won 115 caps for England between 1989 and 2001, including a record 54 as captain, is to write the book. Atherton commentates for Sky Sports and is an award-winning cricket correspondent for the Times; he is also the author of memoir Opening Up.
S&S bought world rights to the book in all languages from agent Jon Holmes, at Jon Holmes Media.
Atherton said: "I am delighted to have this exciting opportunity to share my insight on such a dramatic Ashes series. This will be my account of the struggle to regain the Ashes as I saw it from day to day."
Simon & Schuster m.d. and c.e.o. Ian Chapman said: "It is a pleasure and a privilege to welcome Mike Atherton to Simon & Schuster’s list as a hugely respected journalist with unparalleled first-hand experience of the Ashes contest.
"And we are delighted to have the opportunity to publish the first and best book on this current, thrilling Ashes series.”
