Simon & Schuster has rushed through a second reprint of The Ugly Game: The Qatari Plot to Buy the World Cup by Heidi Blake and Jonathan Calvert after the Fifa arrests last week, which dominated news headlines around the world.
The publisher ordered a 1,500 reprint of the book, only released in April, following an increase in orders from booksellers after news last week’s arrests broke.
On Wednesday (27th May) seven top officials of world football's governing body as part of a US prosecution that indicted 14 people. They were arrested on corruption charges including racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering.
A separate criminal investigation into how the 2018 and 2022 World Cups were allocated has also begun by Swiss authorities.
Author Jonathan Calvert has since been interviewed by several television and radio outlets which has increased exposure for the title.
S&S ordered a 1,500 reprint in just 24 hours of the story breaking last week in the UK and also Australia.
Figures from Nielsen Bookscan today do show an 84% rise in sales for the title but from fairly low figures of 109 last week up to 201 this week.
