Simon and Schuster publishing director Iain MacGregor is joining the Headline non-fiction team as publisher, it has been announced.
MacGregor will start in the newly created position from February 2020, reporting to publishing director Sarah Emsley.
He has worked at S&S for five years with a stable of authors including Simon Schama, Michael Wood, James Barr, Jim Naughtie and John Nicol, whose Spitfire was on the Sunday Times bestseller list for 15 weeks in 2018. He has spearheaded the UK publication of S&S global releases including Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen, Bob Woodward’s Fear and Hillary Clinton’s What Happened. Formerly of Aurum Press, he is also a published author in his own right.
He said: “I have enjoyed five successful years at Simon & Schuster and will take away some fantastic memories of publishing great titles with talented authors and valued colleagues. I have always admired and to some extent competed against Headline and to have the opportunity to start up a new list there was a challenge I wanted to take up. I am incredibly excited about this new phase in my career.”
Emsley added: “Iain is a very experienced publisher with an impressive record of success in the more serious non-fiction genres. I believe he will have a hugely positive impact on our publishing, adding both breadth and depth to our list as we continue to grow. I am thrilled to welcome him to the Headline non-fiction team.”
