S&S to publish NHS tribute

Simon & Schuster Children's UK is to publish a tribute to the NHS, donating funds to NHS Charities Together.

The publisher will release Health Heroes: The People Who Took Care of the World researched and written by Emily Sharratt this summer, to celebrate the people who have worked in all aspects of healthcare during the pandemic.

The book is the brainchild of publishing director Ali Dougal, and was inspired by her daughter clapping NHS workers every Thursday evening.

Rachel Denwood, S&S Children's m.d., said: "We’re so proud to be sharing these true stories of real people being amazing. Following the success of Greta’s Story, we are proactively developing books on universal subjects that children really care about, in formats that are right for their bookshelves. It’s been wonderful to see the team galvanise behind Health Heroes, a book that is going from concept to publication in just four months, and that will inform and inspire young readers as well as give back to NHS charities. "

The book features stories from international and local surgeons, nurses, midwives, paramedics and doctors, and includes "famous names" and "unsung heroes".

Ellie Orton, c.e.o. of NHS Charities Together said: "We’re delighted Simon & Schuster is raising funds in aid of NHS Charities Together with this book that celebrates our incredible health heroes. Funds raised will help us improve the wellbeing of NHS staff, volunteers and patients. Thank you Simon & Schuster and everyone who purchases this book."

The book is aimed at readers age eight and above and features black and white illustrations from Juanita Londono.

S&S will donate £1 from each sale of the book to NHS Charities Together. It will be published on 6th August.
