Simon & Schuster UK has acquired a new series by Rachel Renée Russell, author of the Dork Diaries series.
The Misadventures of Max Crumbly is about a boy called Max and his dailyups and downs at South Ridge Middle School. After being home-schooled by his grandmother Max begs to go to school, although when he arrives he meets Tommy Silver, who keeps stuffing him into his locker.
Senior commissioning editor Jane Griffiths bought the UK and Commonwealth rights to two books from Dan Lazar of Writers House and will publish the first book simultaneously with Simon & Schuster US and Simon & Schuster Australia in April 2016. A second book will follow in spring 2017.
Griffiths said: “We’re thrilled to be launching a new series from Rachel Renée Russell. Dork Diaries is a global phenomenon and Rachel’s writing is perfect for this age group, so we’re delighted to welcome a new boy hero to our list in the form of Max Crumbly. I’m sure Rachel’s existing fan base and a new audience will love him.”
