Simon & Schuster Children’s Books has acquired a new series from the author of Space Lizards Stole My Brain!
Fiction editor Jane Griffiths acquired world rights in a two-book deal for The Odd Squad by Mark Griffiths via Kate Shaw at the Viney Agency. S&S Children's will publish the first title in January 2013.
The Odd Squad is set in the dull town of Blue Hills, where two 11-year-old schoolchildren, Gaby and Barney, start to notice bizarre events, such as inanimate objects coming to life and time travellers on the high street. They make a pledge to “investigate the impossible” and find out the truth.
Jane Griffiths said, “Just as he did in Space Lizards, Mark Griffiths has created a world that’s utterly zany and fun, but strangely believable too. In Gabby and Barney he introduces two great new characters: a mix of a young Holmes and Watson with Mulder and Scully thrown in.”
