Simon & Schuster Children’s Books has signed a book about an aspiring actress from mother and daughter writing duo Perdita and Honor Cargill.
Waiting for Callback, aimed at readers aged 11+, is about Elektra, a young girl who is discovered by an acting agent. She dreams of Oscar glory but instead lurches from one cringe-worthy moment to the next, falling out with her best friend along the way.
The book was written by Perdita Cargill, a former barrister, and her sixteen-year-old daughter Honor.
Jane Griffiths, commissioning editor at S&S UK, bought the world rights in a two-book deal from Hannah Sheppard at the DHH Literary Agency.
Griffiths said: “Lights, camera, action! I’m thrilled to welcome Perdita and Honor to the Simon & Schuster Children’s Books list. Waiting for Callback is fresh, funny and full of sparkle, with hugely appealing characters, cringe-worthy moments, crushes, friendship dilemmas and plenty of backstage drama from the acting world that teenage girls are going to love reading about.”
Waiting for Callback will be published on 28th January 2016 (p/b, £6.99).
