Simon & Schuster has acquired Walking the Nile by explorer and photographer Levison Wood after a multi-publisher auction.
Mike Jones, publishing director of non-fiction,bought the book from agent Ben Mason at Fox Mason Ltd in association with Wolfsong Media.
Wood flew to Africa on Saturday (23rd November) to embark on a quest to be the first person to walk the 4,000-mile length of the Nile through seven countries. Wood, who runs an expedition company and until recently was an officer in the Parachute Regiment, will be mainly walking alone, but recording his progress for a Channel 4 series to be broadcast on his return. He will be carefully keeping a written record of his walk which Simon & Schuster UK will publish on late in 2014 or early in 2015.
Jones said: “This is an incredible expedition to undertake, through some of the remotest and harshest terrain in the world. We are all hugely looking forward to reading about how Lev copes with the challenges such a journey will undoubtedly set before him, as well as learning more about Africa, a continent going through a fascinating stage in its history. We are all wishing Lev the best of luck on his amazing journey.”
