Simon & Schuster has bought UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) to The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman.
Publishing director Suzanne Baboneau bought rights from Curtis Brown's Elizabeth Sheinkman, acting on behalf of the Markson Thoma Literary Agency.
Publication will be simultaneous with Scribner in the US, on 4th October.
Susan Moldow, executive vice-president and publisher of Scribner, and Nan Graham, senior vice-president and editor-in-chief of Scribner, who will be Alice Hoffman's editor, acquired the book direct from Elaine Markson.
Set in ancient Israel, the book is about the Roman siege of Masada, which is seen as one of the most significant events in Jewish history.
