Square Peg has fought off twelve other publishers to acquire a book in a six-figure deal by the co-founders of feminist blog, The Vagenda.
Publisher Rosemary Davidson bought British and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada in the title, written by Holly Baxter and Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett, from Diana Beaumont at Rupert Heath Literary Agency.
The Vagenda was founded by Baxter and Cosslett in February 2012, writing about their experience of the media, in particular women's magazines. The book will be "their (wo)manifesto, exploring some of the most popular themes and topics in greater depth but with their customary humour, insight and irreverence not to mention wonderful writing". It will be published by Square Peg in 2013.
Davidson said: "Quite a number of the Square Peg and Vintage team were already devoted to The Vagenda and avid readers of the blog. So when we received the proposal for a Vagenda book by Holly and Rhiannon from Diana Beaumont the whole team was unanimous and determined to publish this potentially agenda-setting publication by two extremely smart young women. We knew we were up against stiff competition after so many meetings with other publishers so are all the more thrilled to have secured the deal."
