Square Peg has bought the rights to a "hilarious" compilation of the texts "we wish we'd never sent". Rowan Yapp acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Cathryn Summerhayes at the William Morris Agency.
Texts From Last Night will compile cringe-worthy texts taken from http://www.textsfromlastnight.com" target="_blank">textsfromlastnight.com. The website was launched in April 2009 and has an average of 4m hits a day. The publisher said the entries would be "something everyone can relate to", with the book comparable to I Lick My Cheese (Sphere).
Examples of texts from the site include: "you googled 'I want to buy a live ostrich'. I'd say you were pretty wasted" and "i forgot what you looked like. so we left to get pizza. sorry".
Square Peg will publish the title in October 2010, with content tailored towards the UK market. In the US, the book will be published by Gotham and there is an American TV show in the works.
