Square Peg has acquired 26 Grains by Alex Hely-Hutchinson, who started out serving porridge to commuters from a pop-up shop.
Rowan Yapp at Square Peg has acquired the UK and Commonwealth rights for the cookbook 26 Grains by Hely-Hutchinson from Cathryn Summerhayes at WME for the titles, which will be published in September 2016.
The book features 100 recipes that use wholesome grains from oats to amaranth and spans classic breakfast porridges, through lunchtime salad bowls, to nourishing dinners, inspired by the author’s time in Copenhagan where grains are prevalent in Nordic cooking.
Hely-Hutchinson, described as “a rising star of the current food scene”, first established her brand as a pop-up, serving porridge to hungry commuters in venues such as Old Street station. She now has a shop-space at Neal’s Yard and is expected to be on 2016’s food festival circuit.
Rowan Yapp, editorial director at Square Peg Books, said 26 Grains is “a cookbook of flavorsome and filling bowl-food which also happens to be good for you has it all, and Alex is an incredibly exciting new, young cookery voice.”
Hely-Hutchinson said: “I’m delighted to be working with the team at Square Peg and have the opportunity to share our recipes. I’ve been testing them through our pop ups around London and now in our own shop and I’m excited to grow the community of people cooking with grains. The recipes will focus on each grain’s taste and texture and pairing them with flavours that enhance their properties. Rye and cardamom, amaranth and sweet potato, oats and carrots are just a few of the combinations we’ve included.”
