Canongate has signed A Spoonful of Stories by Ella Berthoud and Susan Elderkin, the follow-up to The Novel Cure: An A-Z of Literary Remedies.
World rights were signed from Clare Alexander at Aitken Alexander by senior editor Jenny Lord.
A Spoonful of Stories: Books to Keep Children Happy, Healthy and Wise matches books to physical and emotional ailments, this time focussing on younger readers.
Berthoud and Elderkin said: "When we were writing The Novel Cure, we were constantly surprised that no-one had thought to match ailments to literary cures before – it seemed so obvious, such a positive, joyful way to make the most of books. With children, the case for bibliotherapy is even clearer. Anyone who has ever shared a book with a child will know how difficult-to-broach topics can be explored more easily through a thematically relevant book, and how rhythm and rhyme can bring lightness and humour and turn a perspective around."
