Sphere has acquired world English rights for a two-book thriller series by Jon Trace. Nikola Scott, editorial director, struck the deal via Luigi Bonomi at the LBA literary agency.
The first title to be released is The Venice Conspiracy, which tells the story of a former priest named Tom Shaman, who becomes embroiled in a brutal serial killer case on a trip to Venice.
The as-yet-untitled follow up will be set in Rome and feature the same character.
The Venice Conspiracy will be published by Sphere as a paperback original in February 2010, with the second title out in February 2011.
Scott said: "Trace brings together a fantastic concept, an irresistibly sinister setting and a brilliantly tenacious new series hero. A pacey and utterly compelling read, this is perfect for fans of Dan Brown and Sam Bourne."
