Sphere is republishing A Life in Nature –a portrait of Sir Peter Scott it originally published under the title Happy the Man in 1967–after securing rights from the late conservationist and artist's estate.
A Life in Nature comprises collected writings from Sir Peter Scott's own conversations, articles and broadcasts, including thoughts on expeditions to Lapland, conservation, Africa and his travels in Europe. It is also illustrated with his own paintings.
Sir Peter Scott–son of the legendary explorer Captain Scott–founded the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust and helped to found the Worldwide Fund for Nature, leading Sir David Attenborough to describe him conservation's "patron saint". He also represented Great Britain and Northern Ireland at sailing in the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal.
Fiona Rose, commissioning editor at Sphere, acquired world rights directly from Sir Peter Scott’s estate.
She said: "We’re so proud to be bringing Sir Peter’s beautiful writing and illustrations back to the Sphere list. This is a timely and important rediscovered book, perfect for those who are interested in wildlife and the importance of preserving our planet.’
Sir Peter Scott's daughter, Dafila Scott, said: "I love reading my father’s descriptions of his travels, his conservation writings and thoughts about nature and ethics in this book. His enthusiasm for life and his love of nature really shine through."
The book will be published in hardback, e-book and audio on 9th May 2021.
