Sphere wins Daisy Buchanan's debut novel in 'hotly contested' auction

Sphere has triumphed in a "hotly contested" auction to publish journalist Daisy Buchanan’s debut novel Insatiable

World rights were acquired from Diana Beaumont at Marjacq. The book will be a lead title for the Little, Brown rights team at The London Book Fair and a major debut launch for Sphere when it publishes in early 2021.

Buchanan said: "I could not be more thrilled to be published by Sphere; they really grasped the spirit of the novel, and I know they feel as tenderly towards Violet as I do. Insatiable is all about women, desire, vulnerability, heartbreak and courage; there were moments when I shocked myself when I was writing it. My amazing agent Diana Beaumont was the one who made me believe this story was worth telling – now I just can’t wait for the world to meet Violet."

"Insatiable introduces Violet – bored, single and nihilistic – as she is approached by a beautiful couple at a work event who soon make it clear they are not only interested in Violet’s professional acumen," reads the synopsis. "Tender, funny, messy, frank and shocking in all the best ways, Insatiable looks at female desire in all its forms and asks what happens when a woman seeks the space to explore everything she wants from life."

Beaumont said: "I'm delighted that the fabulous team at Sphere will be publishing Daisy's debut novel. Insatiable is such a bold, challenging and sexy read full of Daisy's trademark insight and humour. I couldn't be prouder to be working on such an exciting book."

Sphere fiction editorial director Darcy Nicholson added: "I’ve long been a fan of Daisy’s writing and I’m delighted to be publishing her debut novel with such fanfare next year. Insatiable is unlike anything out there and I’m so looking forward to seeing it reach readers around the world."
