Sphere has acquired the memoir of blogger, actress and comedian Gabrielle Fernie.
Lush: A True Story, Soaked in Gin will be published in paperback in July 2018 and covers a "chaotic" year in Fernie's life, leading up the wedding of her best friend.
Originally from a small village in Wales, Fernie moved to London for drama school, a decision that inspired her blog chronicling her "gin-fuelled" adventures as a struggling actress in the big city.
According to Sphere, the book combines slapstick with memoir, celebrating the fact "it’s okay not to know what the hell you’re doing with your life".
Editorial director Hannah Boursnell, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Laura Williams at PFD.
Boursnell commented: "Gabby is a gifted storyteller, deftly combining scenes of laugh-out-loud slapstick with truly touching moments of vulnerability, and her memoir captures something really honest and timely about the exhilarating, but often terrifying – and lonely – experience of finding your place in the world. Lush is ultimately a tribute to three things: the joy found in female friendship; the joy found in booze and the joy in accepting that it’s okay not to know what the hell you’re doing with your life. (No one does.) I’m thrilled to be publishing such a special book.’"
Fernie added: "I'm absolutely over the moon to be unleashing my memoir of misdemeanours. I recommend reading it with a large glass of gin."
