US publisher Sourcebooks has acquired Simple Truths, a specialist inspirational and motivational books publisher.
It is the 15th company acquisition that Sourcebooks has made since it was established in 1987, and is confirmed as its largest purchase to date.
Simple Truths was founded in 2005 by Mac Anderson, selling direct to consumers through its website and currently has 100 backlist and forthcoming titles. Many of its books are produced with a three-minute video which can be viewed online or purchased with the book. Since the publisher was founded, these videos have been watched more than 100m times.
Staff from Simple Truths will now join Sourcebooks, with Anderson remaining as executive editorial director.
Dominique Raccah, c.e.o. and publisher of Sourcebooks, said: "I’m excited by the growth potential in Simple Truths and Sourcebooks banding together. This purchase adds almost $10 million to our top-line sales and extends opportunities for Sourcebooks authors . . .
"There are significant opportunities for creating momentum in this marketplace, and we believe now is the time to expand our existing initiatives to create deeper relationships with readers."
Anderson added: "Leveraging our content through their distribution channels will generate excellent growth opportunities."
Previous acquisitions by Sourcebooks include that of Sphinx Publishing, a consumer-oriented law publisher, in 1997; Hysteria Publications, which focusses on humour and women's interest titles, in 1998; and independent publisher Cumberland House in 2007.
