Virago has bought a "brave and powerful memoir" by Washington Post correspondent Souad Mekhennet.
Publisher Lennie Goodings bought UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Devon Mazzone at Holt.
Virago said: "In the pursuit of today’s most pressing question - why are some young Muslim women and men rejecting their parents’ dreams of economic betterment and personal freedom in favour of radical rebellion in the Middle East? – she has confronted some of the world’s killers, unmasked Jihadi John, and gone deep into Muslim communities in the west.
"An independent, progressive Muslim woman, she herself has experienced the benefits of growing up in a democracy and the sting of being treated like an outsider in the land of her birth."
Goodings said: "Souad’s life and her quest are nothing less than the modern story."
Virago will publish in spring 2017.
